Sheep gunned down in Northamptonshire field
13th Jul 2011

ARMED thugs gunned down a flock of sheep as they grazed in a field in Northamptonshire.

The incident happened in a field near Chipping Warden, overnight on June 29, but police have only just released the details.

The thieves used hunting rifles to slaughter the animals before loading 26 of the lambs’ bodies into a van.

Ten sheep were found dead in the field and a further seven had to be put down due to their injuries. It is believed only three sheep survived the attack and are being cared for by vets.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said the force was now appealing for witnesses. He said it was thought to be an isolated incident but said farmers should remain vigilant and make regular checks on their livestock.

Anyone with any information should call Northamptonshire Police on 03000 111 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
