Gangmasters

Europeople’s GLA Licence number is: EURO0002

When an organisation supplies labour to provide services in agriculture, forestry, horticulture, shellfish gathering, food processing and packaging, it is regulated by the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA).

The GLA is a non-departmental Government body of Defra (Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and issues licences to all the operators that meet its standards. An organisation that provides these services cannot operate legally without a GLA licence.

Often a misunderstood term, the word Gangmasters is also widely misused. The GLA’s purpose is to safeguard the welfare and interests of workers whilst ensuring labour providers operate within the law.
